The development of recruitment in RussiaThe profession of «recruiter», today, is quite famous and in demand in the labour market, both among young and experienced professionals. But certainly interesting to look deeper, to find out what started the development of this area.

If we talk about the recruitment as the recruitment process, in Russia the mention of it can be found in the Tale of bygone years, namely, when in the distant 862 tribes Chud, Slovenes, Krivichi and all called Rurik with his brothers to rule in Novgorod. Also, when referring to history, we may note the special place of settlement for foreigners — German settlement-the first of them was founded by Vasily III, who had custody of hired foreigners. Foreigners came to Russia, mostly for trade, and as doctors or masters of various disciplines, bringing new knowledge and influencing Russian culture.

Perhaps the most famous of the «recruiter» was Peter I, who in 1702 he published a Manifesto inviting foreigners to settle in Russia. Invited were not only merchants and military experts, all we see today is an amazing monuments created by foreign artists. Many come to Russia, remained there forever. Now imagine how difficult it was to persuade people to move from Europe to completely alien to him, the Russian State, because even now, many believe that we walk the streets bears, and in those days the main source of information was a rumor and was not even a hint of the advanced technology that we have now. What objections had to be our great leader, what kind of persistence to show!

Another spin-off «hr» history of Russia is Sergey Yulyevich Witte, which ran South-West roads. Under him was a staff of 30,000 people, strictly relevant to all professional skills and true corporate spirit. Once Witte met the right person, he immediately lured him to her, and as a result, the railway business of Russia at that time flourished as never before!

unfortunately, some stagnation in the development of recruitment was observed in the Soviet Union, the main work was limited to HR administration, tracking of discipline and scheduling of vacations. In General, people can’t even imagine what it’s like to look for a job. For the first time the word «recruiting» in Russia only heard in the early ‘ 90s.

The first recruitment Agency appeared in 1989. Oddly enough, the first order was not a request to close the vacancy, and, conversely, recruiters need to conduct interviews of employees whom the company was going to reduce (by the way, this service is now widely distributed abroad, the aim is to maximally mitigate and explain to the employee why and what it is fired, so that it has filed a lawsuit against the company). The Agency’s work was complicated by the absence of the Internet, and the first newspaper to find work appeared only in 1992. First the Agency worked at a loss, however, when in 1990 was removed the state monopoly on recruitment in foreign firms and joint ventures, the number of customers and, accordingly, orders expanded significantly.

From 1991 to 1995, the market of HR services in Moscow and St. Petersburg began to expand, in Moscow, there were already 54 of the Agency. In the period 1996 — 1998 first appeared online portal to find work, and was created a nationwide Association of Executive search consultants (APSC).
By 2008, this market was already fully formed, there were about two thousand recruitment agencies throughout Russia, for domestic and international market came to the company, and to this point was a severe shortage of qualified personnel, the so-called «market competitors».

during the financial crisis badly affected the work of the agencies — the weakest simply left the market, strong steel to continue to grow by entering new areas of employment. And today, all areas of recruitment are actively developed, each has its own niches competition. Companies are increasingly turning to agencies to search as a mass of staff and top professionals, widely distributed outstaffing, in large organizations there is a staff of recruiters, actively interacting with the external consultants. Candidates also become more open to agencies, often preferring them directly to submit your resume than to the company or on the «job» site, knowing that they will be given all the necessary information along with the privacy policy.
